Our Story
The M Ranch is more than just a name, it is a way for two people passionate about livestock to build their own brand and legacy. Jerry and Heather started their M Ranch journey in 2019, it wasn’t until 2020 that the business became a reality and officially launched in 2021. It has taken countless hours from not only Jerry and Heather, but the unconditional support from their family and friends to get M Ranch where it is today.
Heather was born and raised on her family’s cattle ranch in the Yellowstone River Valley. She always knew she wanted to ranch. After attending college in Wyoming she went on to Montana State University where she received her degree in Animal Science- Livestock and Industry- this led her to work in livestock genetics. About this time she ran into an old friend from college (Jerry!) and that, as they say, is that. Heather’s background in livestock science has given her an amazing understanding of the importance of genetics when raising quality livestock. She is constantly modifying and improving the breeding and feeding programs for the herd’s development.
Jerry was also born and raised on the family cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana. Farming and ranching has been in his family for several generations and like those before him, it came naturally. After high school Jerry attended Northwest College in Wyoming where he received his degree in Farm and Ranch Management. After college and a couple years in the workforce Jerry turned a different page and joined the United States Marine Corps. It wasn’t until after Jerry joined the Marine Corps and moved thousands of miles away that he reconnected with Heather from college and figured out they liked each other. Who would have known?!
After several years of being apart in distance but never at heart, they said their “I do’s” in August of 2021 and became The Mico’s, the foundation of the M Ranch name. So much hard work and sweat and sleepless nights go into starting any type of business- but few are as rewarding as agriculture.
Since getting married Jerry has also started his own contractor's business where he is frequently traveling the entire state of Montana and much of Wyoming. In August of 2022 they also bought a local cafe in Columbus, MT, Heather then left her previous town job and now runs the cafe on the day to day. The cafe often features M Ranch's hamburger for their infamous "smash burgers". It was a huge step for both Jerry and Heather as they are now both completely self-employed.
M Ranch is more than just a name, our goal at the end of the day, is to bring to your family the highest quality meats with the accessibility of the current times.
